The company has inked a deal with Google that would see the Truecaller app integrated with Google Duo and payment. This year, potentially, 60 million 4G feature phones will be sold in India. The announcements were made at the company's first annual "Stay ahead" event in New Delhi. The popular service, which first started as a way to help you identify unknown callers, is now spreading its wings beyond being your complementary phonebook and voice call app.
Truecaller, one of the few hugely successful dialer apps, just announced a massive update to its services. Google Duo is a simplified video calling app from Google that's meant to make video calling as simple as a voice call.
Lastly, Truecaller also collaborated with Bharti Airtel to introduce "Airtel Truecaller ID" which essentially extends the caller ID feature of Truecaller to Airtel's non-data users using feature phones.
Shop/business owners can also send receipts through the app, Alan Mamedi, Chief Executive Officer and co-founder, Truecaller, told BusinessLine.
Apart from that, the SMS Inbox feature of Truecaller 8 comes with flash messaging support that allows you quickly send out pre-determined text messages with requisite emojis to any Truecaller user. The Airtel Truecaller ID will be a subscription based service for Airtel users. Starting off, Truecaller is finally bringing its messaging service "Truemessenger" also used for identifying new numbers and blocking spam is now being natively integrated into the main app.More news: French presidential debate dominated by Islam and Burkini row
"Truecaller Pay" can be accessed conveniently via the "Send money through UPI" tab on Truecaller app's profile page.
Partnership with ICICI Bank - Truecaller enters the payment wallet segment with Truecaller Pay, a mobile payment service in partnership with India's largest private sector bank ICICI Bank to send and receive payments.
"If we are able to find success with these kinda of services [in India], then we could replicate a similar model in other markets", Kim Fai Kok, director of communications at Truecaller, told TechCrunch. Truecaller won't be keeping a database of user's information including account details or the credit/debit card details. Zarringhalam also confirmed that the video calling feature would comply with the safest and the most efficient experience technologically possible.
As per IDC, about 65 percent of India's more than one billion mobile phone subscribers still use feature phones, providing more opportunities as ever for users to explore the world of Truecaller.
