In a long-anticipated event that caused almost two million people to suddenly think, "Oh, so that's what a giraffe's vagina looks like", all at once, New York-based zoo animal and internet celebrity April The Giraffe has finally given birth.

April the giraffe's calf takes its first tentative steps on April 15, 2017. The staff at the Animal Adventure Park are excited for the new addition to their zoo family.

The calf's father is Oliver, a five-year-old giraffe kept in the same petting zoo. Giraffes are pregnant for 15 months on average.

It is planning a naming contest for the calf. The internet spent days arguing about the color of a dress, and livestreams have allowed people all over the world to watch and comment on police chases, sporting events, and political protests together.

The privately owned zoo began livestreaming from April's enclosure in February.

If you remember, a live video feed of a very pregnant April was started back in February.

The 15-year-old giraffe gave birth to a wobbly-legged calf yesterday, creating an Easter weekend sensation for her large network of fans around the world. A competition will be held to decide on a name for the calf. It is now closed and will open to the public in mid-May.

No other details on the calf were announced, but they usually weigh around 150 pounds (68.04 kilograms) and are about 6 feet (1.83 meters) tall at birth.
