Rose had begun the year healthy and talking about the Knicks as one of the NBA's "super teams".

Knee injuries have been a serious issue for Rose throughout his career.

He has had multiple knee problems since his 2010-11 MVP season with the Chicago Bulls. Rose has missed the past two games with what had been termed a sore left knee.

Derrick Rose is done for the season after an MRI discovered a small tear in his meniscus. He has already undergone three different knee surgeries, which limited him to just 49 games over the course of three years from 2011-14.

Rose has averaged 18 points and 3.8 rebounds per game but was fined by the team in January after skipping a game against New Orleans without informing management of his whereabouts.

However, his name did pop up at the trade deadline in a possible deal that would have sent him to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Ricky Rubio, per ESPN's Marc Stein. Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical first reported the news of the tear, adding Rose will need six to eight weeks to recover.

An unrestricted free agent-to-be, Rose's injury could have a severe impact on his market value over the offseason.

With a deep point guard class available in this summer's draft, the Knicks could use their lottery pick to find a floor general for the future.
