Rosenbach did not say how the gun was discovered. "We have not found any injuries as of now".
Mason County is a little more than an hour outside of Seattle, Washington.
"Lots of rumors flying around", a sheriff's office spokesperson said via Twitter at 12:15 p.m.
According to North Mason School District Superintendent Dana Rosenbach, North Mason High School and Hawkins Middle School are on lockdown after deputies took a student into custody after a report of a student with a gun.

Mason County Sheriff's Office first told KIRO 7 News that they were responding to a confirmed report of a shooting.
Law enforcement are on the scene and are clearing the school.
"Our officers were already on campus at the high school for a student with a handgun", said Chief Deputy Ryan Spurling.
Mason County Sheriff's officials told KIRO around 11:30 a.m. that the school was on lockdown. Police advised parents to "hold tight" until further information was available.
