A representative for the Secret Service, in turn, acknowledged the "alleged incident" had taken place with the said off-duty agent.

A Secret Service agent on Vice President Mike Pence's personal detail was arrested and suspended last week after soliciting a prostitute at a Maryland hotel. The agents hit the clubs of Cartagena for a night of drinking that ended with them bringing women back to their hotel rooms. "This matter is being investigated by our Office of Professional Responsibility to determine the facts".

'We are exploring the full range of disciplinary actions, ' the Secret Service spokesperson said.

Police arrested the agent after seeing him leave the hotel.

One unnamed CNN source said that the arrest, which reportedly occurred late last week, was not the result of a sting operation.

Security lapses have also been a recurring problem at the Secret Service under both the Obama and Trump administrations.

The incident is the latest in a series of Secret Service embarrassments, the most recent of which was the theft of an agency computer, lapel pins and radio from an agent's vehicle in NY.

Then-Director Mark Sullivan apologized for the scandal but called it an anomaly.

Earlier that year, three agents were sent home from a presidential trip to the Netherlands.

It was later revealed that the same supervisor and another colleague had been sending sexually suggestive messages to a female subordinate.
