Two to three inches of rain is possible. Meteorologists upgraded the threat to high and added a warning of a "particularly unsafe situation".

In addition to the heavy rain threat, you will want to stay weather aware on Sunday as all modes of severe weather will be in play as well. It is possible this could be a significant severe weather day.

"I think we got nearly like three inches of rain total in an hour, but a good chunk of that fell on a real short amount of time", Lauritsen told Houston Public Media.

A complex storm system has brought much-needed rain to the Commonwealth. Atmospheric conditions will be favorable for the development of strong to severe thunderstorms. Guerrero suggested owning a weather radio, or being subscribed to a notification service for severe weather updates in Tom Green County.

"The main threats for tomorrow are large hail and damaging winds", Guerrero said. Eventually activity will diminish early Friday morning before sunrise. Typically after such damage, the National Weather Service will investigate and determine if the damage was caused by a tornado or straight-line winds. The storm mode should favor discrete development, transitioning into a squall line for eastern Texas-with isolated discrete cells developing ahead of the squall line just south of the warm-front.

As we head into the late morning/early afternoon, we are looking for the storms to begin moving into the western sections of East Texas. We're still working on the when and where in Alabama.

Locally heavy rainfall will be possible through Friday morning.

All of East Texas is in the SLIGHT RISK AREA and surrounding the MODERATE RISK area is the ENHANCED RISK area. Flooding will be a possibility outside of this area as well. Strong thunderstorms could accumulate in the afternoon on Sunday, Goudsward said, cautioning that a lot may change in the forecast between now and then. We encourage you to not put your smartphone on Do Not Disturb that way you'll receive weather warnings while you're sleeping.
