Watch the Chicago Cubs raise their 2016 World Series banner

David Ross had a very good excuse for missing out on a memorable evening at Wrigley Field: having retired after helping the Cubs win it all, the 40-year-old former catcher was competing Monday on "Dancing With the Stars".

In addition to halting the longest title drought in baseball, the Cubs became the first club to overcome a 3-1 World Series deficit since the 1985 Kansas City Royals.

"Our vision was to create a neighborhood center where families, fans and visitors can find entertainment, unique and local food options and daily attractions in an urban park setting", said Crane Kenney, Cubs president of business operations. The ceremony was delayed by rain but that did not dampen the mood.

Gatorade relased this advertisement featuring Schwarber as he trains for the start of the 2017 Cubs season.

Fans and players stand as they watch fireworks during the national anthem in the home opening ceremonies.

Fans will notice a new plaza with a lawn and a large video screen that will host community events throughout the year, such as a farmer's market, movies and musical performances.

That's right, just head on over to Cubs.com at 6:20 pm Chicago time and you will not miss any of the action. The bullpens, formerly located down the first-base and third-base lines, were moved beneath the bleachers during the offseason. They've been replacing seats throughout the ballpark, expanding concessions.

That has to be a championship banner raised toward the sky, a gift that might seem heaven sent.

Because in Chicago, "we don't raise L's" (except the train, of course, the commercial jokes). "That's going to be some day that you won't forget".
