The victor of Tuesday's draft lottery was the Boston Celtics, as they secured the number one overall pick in this year's draft; followed by the Lakers at number two and the 76ers at number three. 'Game last night, Game 7, a tough Washington team.
"I think we'll receive more calls than we'll make", he said. I hope it happens.
Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck was the lucky charm for a team that, despite its shamrock logo, hasn't had such good fortune in the lottery.
The Los Angeles Lakers were other big winners, moving up one spot to second to hold onto their pick.
And the Lakers will get a chance to take one of them after beating the odds to move up in their first year with Hall of Famer Magic Johnson as their team president. "What we say all the time is we leave all of our options open and we'll look at all the scenarios that could play out with respect to the value of that draft asset". Because of a trade made by Hinkie with Sacramento that netted them a pick swap in this year's draft, the Sixers will have the third overall pick, instead of the fifth. Boston also got the Nets' first-round picks in 2014, 2016 and 2018.More news: Khloe Kardashian asks, "What the hell does Kylie Jenner do all day?"
- Jonathan Givony (@DraftExpress) May 17, 2017Will be interesting to see if the Big Baller Brand Camp agrees to a head to head matchup w/De'Aaron Fox, considering how the last one went.
Municipal Court Judge Dwane Mallory dismissed misdemeanor counts of assault and disorderly conduct at the prosecutor's request after a plea agreement. The timing couldn't have worked out better, as the Nets tumbled all the way to the worst record in the National Basketball Association this season. After having the best odds for the No 1 pick in 1997, Boston missed out on the chance to get Tim Duncan; in 1986, the Celtics landed the No 2 overall pick and used it on Len Bias, who died two days later of a cocaine overdose.
In all fairness, however, I can not explain why the New York Knicks dropped to eight overall behind the Minnesota Timberwolves despite being tied in odds. It was a good night for the Kings, who moved up to five, about as good as possible give that it was the outcome of thier pick swap with the Sixers. The Kings will likely go with a guard/wing combo with both picks. Hinkie knew it would not be easy for the team's diehard fans to endure such a painful rebuild, but he famously implored them to "trust the process".
The Charlotte Hornets, Detroit Pistons, Denver Nuggets and Miami Heat will get the final four lottery picks.
All of these questions will be speculated about until answers are finally given at the end of June, but for now, here are my projections for the first round of the NBA Draft.
