McCourty, who was released by the Tennessee Titans after eight seasons with the organization back in April, will now likely start opposite current Browns cornerback Joe Haden in 2017.
McCourty was a sixth-round pick of the Titans in 2009 and has totaled 517 tackles, 13 interceptions, 91 passes defensed, six forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries and a sack. The Browns also have Jamar Taylor and Briean Boddy-Calhoun at the position, but McCourty adds something else: proven experience in coordinator Gregg Williams' scheme after the duo worked together in 2013.
In announcing McCourty's signing, Browns executive vice president of football operations Sashi Brown called McCourty a "good fit for our team" and an "asset for our defense".More news: Storms in northern Iowa could be severe
"He has talked to me about that some", McCourty told Cabot. I want to be a part of something where I felt like I'm wanted and where I feel like I'm part of a family. According to reports, the former Tennessee Titans defensive back is expected to join the Browns on a two-year deal. "This was an easy decision for me". McCourty was honored as Tennessee's Walter Payton Man of the Year in 2014 for his performance on the field and his dedication to the community. That depth became an even bigger issue when rookie cornerback and fourth-round pick Howard Wilson broke his kneecap during rookie minicamp this past weekend. Gonzalez, a kicker from Arizona State, was picked 224th overall.
Arizona State Sun Devils place kicker Zane Gonzalez kicks in the first half October 15 in Boulder, Colo.
Gonzalez made 23 of 25 field goals, including a 59-yarder, for the Sun Devils in 2016.
