Stokes hits risky century in England's 330-6 v South Africa

Stokes is an integral part of England's Champions Trophy plans so any injury is clearly a concern, but the ECB's expectation that he would take a full part in this session was encouraging at the very least. The third and last ODI is on Monday at Lord's. That became 10 off 10 balls when David Miller (71 not out) struck Jake Ball for a six and a four off successive deliveries.

That left seven to get off the last, but Mark Wood limited the damage to three.

But only singles followed as Miller and Morris ran out of steam.

South Africa, on the other hand, have little time to put behind the loss and make a comeback to keep the series alive.

The star all-rounder had scans on his left knee after briefly leaving the field during England s 72-run win over the Proteas at Headingley on Wednesday, a result that put England 1-0 up in the three-match series.

His 79-ball innings, just his second century in 55 matches at this level, featured 11 fours and three sixes.

Stokes has recently returned from the Indian Premier League, where he was crowned the most valuable player at the competition.

England will be boosted by a fully fit Ben Stokes. Stokes received reprieves off his first two deliveries.

Stokes hoisted both Phehlukwayo and Chris Morris high over deep midwicket for sixes.

He had equalled his previous ODI best of 101, against Bangladesh in Dhaka in October, when he found Miller at long-off to give Maharaj a deserved wicket.

Opener Quinton de Kock (98 from 103 balls) led the South African reply before he was caught by wicketkeeper Buttler off Moeen Ali. Amla eventually went leaning back on a thrashed drive in the covers off Stokes that flew straight to Morgan.
