After nearly 13 years, Arsene Wenger finally got the better of Jose Mourinho in the Premier League after Arsenal beat Manchester United 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium.
Mourinho made eight changes from Thursday's 1-0 win over Celta Vigo in the away leg of United's Europa League semi-final, notably awarding a full debut to 19-year-old defender Axel Tuanzebe.
Mourinho said their cramped schedule, which includes a possible two further Europa League fixtures, meant United must win the tournament to qualify for next season's Champions League.
"Yeah, all on the Europa League", he said. Slowly I think we became better and in the second half we controlled the game quite well.
Comparing the match to his own playing days, Neville added: "When I played for Manchester United, Arsenal was always our biggest game of the season - the build-up was electric and I felt as if I was going into battle against our greatest rivals".
"We had to look at ourselves first as I said before the game". "It doesn't make a difference for me if you play with three at the back or four", the Swiss said.More news: NKorea says it will speed up nuke program in response to US
First came the game against Liverpool, where they drew 0-0, despite taking seven attempts on goal.
This was the 16th competitive matchup between Wenger and Mourinho - and the 13th in league play - since 2004. So to have that record of winning so many matches and not losing in so many matches, is something that's not normal. I'm happy for Danny as well. I was back doing what I like the most, and I'm really excited about being able to help the team as much as I can in the final sprint.
Arsenal are now sixth in the Premier League table and six points behind fourth-placed Manchester City. You think I enjoy the fact that a big club like Arsenal are not winning big trophies?
In other words, the top four from race isn't ultimately settled yet in the standings, but Mourinho decided it was for his team.
"We needed to be patient".
"All is not flawless but I think we are a bit more defensively focused at the moment than we were a few weeks ago and it helps us a little bit". "It will be a big, big battle until the last game".
