Forward Markieff Morris didn't even consider Washington's Game 3 win against the Boston Celtics on Thursday night terribly physical despite eight technical fouls and three ejections. The Wizards wing responded to the contact by charging at Olynyk and shoving him to the floor.
LeBron James scored 35 points, Kyrie Irving added 27 and the Cleveland Cavaliers completed a four-game sweep of Toronto, beating the Raptors 109-102 on Sunday to give James his seventh consecutive trip to the Eastern Conference Finals.
"The fact that we play our best basketball in the postseason lets us know that we're up for the challenge", said James, who had nine rebounds and six assists.
Washington coach Scott Brooks said he respects the league's decision and figured a suspension could be coming. "We've just got to take each game one game at a time and come back for Game 4 Sunday, which is going to be probably insane".
Isaiah Thomas had 19 points for Boston, but scored 17 in the first 15 minutes and was held to 1-of-6 shooting after.More news: Sigar Reports 'Shockingly High' Death Rate Among Afghan Soldiers
"As always, he's probably the heart and soul, the guy, he's just incredible", D'Antoni said postgame. Being a shot away from splitting in Boston gives the Wizards confidence they can win there.
"We needed that, we needed to be tested throughout 48-minute games", Irving said. "We've just got to do a better job of taking those leads we get and just playing smart basketball down the stretch".
Game four in a 3-1 series is always a potential turning point, but with the insane home and away split of the Wizards, it means even more. "It's got to be called differently. I'm around Kelly every day". The unfortunate reality is that the Celtics did have an opportunity to make quick work of the Wizards, but their inconsistent play hurt them in a bad way in game three. Games 3 and 4 marked the first time in his National Basketball Association career that he fell short of 20 points back to back. Fans chanted "Kelly Oubre!" on a few occasions as Olynyk finished 5 of 9 for 14 points.
The Wizards have seen players suspended before during the playoffs. Thomas had a strong first half, but was among the biggest reasons for the Celtics falling behind during the 26-0 run in the third with all his turnovers trying to split Washington's constant double-teams. It was the third quarter not the first, that proved to be the Celtics' undoing.
Kyle Korver scored 18 points to help the Cavaliers become the first team to win eight straight playoff games the year following a title, and the first team to win eight straight in consecutive postseasons.
