Once the party of choice for Jews, including impoverished immigrants from Eastern Europe, it lost some ground to the Conservative Party as Labour adopted an increasingly critical attitude towards Israel - part of a larger shift in the West of sympathy toward Israel from the center-left parties to ones on the right.
It's amusing that the right-wing blowhards who were crying bitter tears of outrage just a few days ago about the Election debate audience being "rigged" because for some reason the audience weren't inclined to applaud Paul Nuttall's divisive hard-right posturing, suddenly had no complains at all about the extremely odd demographic balance of the Question Time audience.If the people who were picked by the BBC to ask questions of Jeremy Corbyn are anything to go by, the United Kingdom population is obviously more than 50% comprised of angry, old, cognitively stunted, right-wing, white males.
Patrick McLoughlin, the Conservative chairman, said after the debate: "Jeremy Corbyn wilted under pressure - he waffled on and on in meaningless soundbites without offering anything of substance".
The UK Independence Party has fallen considerably in the polls since their former leader, Nigel Farage, resigned, getting only 3% of the vote.

Labour has said it will raise income taxes on people earning more than 80,000 pounds ($103,152) a year, while promising no increases for the other 95 percent of taxpayers. And a vote for any other party is a vote for Corbyn too. The diatribe was a little over the top.
Corbyn was fluent, engaging and compassionate, answering questions on bread-and-butter Labour issues in the same way he's always done.
"It is irrefutable that Corbyn has not taken the decisive action that a party in a Democratic Western country would take when there is manifest anti-Semitism in its ranks", he added.
A recent interview with the BBC's Andrew Neil reminded viewers that Corbyn was apologetic of Irish republican terrorism as well. During the miners' strike in the 1980s, Nottinghamshire miners refused to strike without a national strike ballot.
