Stephen Colbert returned from Russian Federation for a new Late Show from New York Monday night. But the NBC comic might want to keep the champagne on ice. Tonight averaged 2.656 million viewers overall for the week, topping Late Night's 2.622 million.
The Late Show airs on CBS at 11:35 p.m. ET.
A multi-talented and respected host, writer, producer, satirist and comedian, Colbert is well-known for his previous late night show, "The Colbert Report", which concluded on Friday, Dec. 18, 2014.More news: A Fully Renewable Energy Grid Is Too Costly For Now
Colbert visited Russia last week and appeared on a Russian late-night show to facetiously announce that he's running for President of the United States in 2020. "To be clear, all I said in that little clip there was that I was "considering" a run". "I don't know if you knew this, but I was in Russian Federation last week". During the show, he revealed that he was under surveillance by Russian and American intelligence agents the entire time he was visiting. "Russian intelligence. Hardcore fans, evidently... followed me everywhere", he said. If I decide to run, obviously, I'm not gonna ask the Russians to help my campaign. OK? "I would have my son-in-law ask them". Then: "Oh, wait, someone's already got that covered". He even went so far as to make a sex-related joke about Putin and Trump last month that had Trump and his supporters calling for Colbert to be sacked by CBS.
It looks like President Donald Trump may be facing some notable competition in his bid for reelection.
