New smart speaker expected as Apple kicks off conference

Amazon Stock: A $10 Billion Opportunity That Is Growing Fast - Inc

Six years ago, it was the first major tech company with a voice assistant.

Starting today, the assistant that powers Amazon's Echo smart speakers and more can now set reminders and named timers to keep you on track.

Although Siri would likely be a centerpiece of a smart speaker from Apple, Moorhead said the device's design, colors and acoustics will also likely be focal points because the company has a long history of making elegantly designed products.

On Friday, Digitimes set its sights on the Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, and the rest of the smart speakers in the company's lineup. Apple reported 50.8 million iPhones sold worldwide in the second quarter of 2017, down from 51.2 million a year earlier.

The CEO Tim Cook announced the update at Apple's annual conference for software programmers on Monday. Siri can handle basic requests about facts like the weather or your location but often struggles to handle more complex contextual requests. It gives developers time to make programs before fall's big iPhone releases. Previous year it tried to make Messages young and hip. This means that more devices in the home are controlled through voice commands, effectively reducing the need for continuous management of dozens of mobile applications. As the race for artificial intelligence heats up in Silicon Valley, some worry that Apple is already behind the game. Siri came to the Mac previous year. For Apple, its Siri voice assistant remains popular, but for the first time in a while, it's feeling the heat from the competition.

We're not sure where Amazon is sourcing the data from, but it would appear the company will operate this in the same ways as "Flash Briefings" from multiple news sources.

With a new watch face, Apple Watch promises to learn about your routines to figure out what information to display on the watch face.

Amid all this development, though, Apple's Siri has remained largely static.

"In typical Apple fashion, they've allowed for only a few use cases, but they do them very well", said Charles Jolley, chief executive of Ozlo, maker of an intelligent assistant app.

Although sceptical that current Amazon Echo owners will switch over to the Apple speaker, analysts believe Apple may be able to bridge the gap.

In addition to the Siri speaker, rumours of a new 10.5in iPad Pro, a 12.9in iPad Pro 2, an updated MacBook Pro and a new iOS 11 have circulated on the Internet. Software updates are also expected for Apple's smartwatch and TV box for streaming online video.

Apple hasn't forgotten about its laptops.
