Red Sox to place Eduardo Rodriguez on the disabled list

04 June, 2017

Earlier this week, Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez suffered a knee injury while warming up for his game against the Baltimore Orioles.

Cleveland ace Corey Kluber comes off the disabled list to make his first start since May 2 when the Indians host Oakland. "Hopefully our best baseball is ahead of us".

This injury is nothing new for Rodriguez.

Turns out, the tumble Rodriguez took before the game was not so harmless. He slipped and fell on the bullpen mound.

Whether the knee simply gave out, causing Rodriguez to fall, or the knee was hurt because of the fall isn't known.

Sox manager John Farrell said he had no regrets about letting Rodriguez pitch after the stumble. He came back a completely different pitcher, and posted a 3.24 ERA in his final 14 starts.

Rodriguez has a history of rebounding nicely from outings like Thursday night. "I just missed my pitches".

A day after hanging a 10-spot on the New York Yankees in a series-clinching victory, Baltimore put up seven against the Red Sox. Because Monday is an off day, the team can delay that move until Friday or Saturday.

Brian Johnson is one possible candidate to take over E-Rod's next scheduled start.

"He pitches (in Triple-A today)", Dombrowski said. "In spring training [2016] when he went down, that was much more severe than we saw last night". At the risk of being overcautious, the Sox could have put Rodriguez's history - and that unusual fall, whatever caused it - above all else. The Red Sox could have really used a solid start from the reigning Cy Young award victor given Eduardo Rodriguez' injury and Porcello's own struggles of late. He made two rehab starts at Gwinnett. During last nights game, Christian Vasquez said that you could tell Eduardo Rodriguez was off his game, beginning with the loss in velocity. "Particularly after the way he woke up this morning". He's expected to return to the lineup against Arizona.

"He's still in the healing process right now", Farrell said. He was the last one to do it before Machado's solo shot on Friday. "We're getting closer, but the healing is still in the works".

Price (1-0) allowed one run over seven-plus innings in his second start since coming off the disabled list with a strained left elbow.

"Command of the fastball and curveball I thought was more of a factor".

"I don't think his knee caused him to fall at that particular time", Dombrowski said.

Fast forward a couple weeks and the two AL East contenders were back in Camden Yards Thursday to renew their rivalry. Deven Marrero will likely be used as a late-inning defensive replacement. Really, didn't see any difference in his delivery per se, which is the biggest concern, because we don't want him to hurt his arm, but that's when I was enlightened.
