Manchester United are believed to have shelved out £30.7m for the Swedish global, with Jose Mourinho a long-term admirer of the 22-year-old.

They also confirmed that a further announcement would be made when the deal is completely wrapped up.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho refused to confirm his interest in Lindelof out of respect for Benfica, but it is now clear the deal was already in the works.

Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Sweden defender Victor Lindelof from Benfica for £31m (35m euros).

Lindelof - who has won 12 caps for his country - came through the youth ranks at Swedish club IK Franke before moving to Vasteras and signing for Benfica in 2012.

The Sweden global has impressed both physically and technically over the past two seasons for the Portuguese giants, winning back-to-back Liga titles and this season's Taca de Portugal.

According to Sky Sports, the player is likely to cost United somewhere around £30 million - a reasonable and commendable negotiation job considering the prices prevailing in the present inflated condition of the transfer market.

Speaking last week, Lindelof was coy on his future.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that his compatriot Zlatan Ibrahimovic was recently released by the Old Trafford side after spending one season with the club.
