It came as a surprise because we thought it would roll out during the Pokemon GO Fest or maybe after the event. As for the Pokemon GO Legendary update, we mentioned a while ago, new Gym Raids have been officially added. The video shows off one player earning new gym badges while another group of players is preparing to go head-to-head in a team battle.
Niantic Labs has confirmed that legendary Pokemon will soon be making their way to Pokemon GO, fulfilling a mechanic of the game that has been teased since the very first trailer. Of course, the strangers hugging each other might be a bit of a stretch but it doesn't seem too far fetched that tons of people would be rushing to a central location after receiving news of a legendary raid happening near them. Today, Niantic has announced the possibility for players to capture Legendary Pokemon as of July 22, in just a few days. If legendary Pokemon are to bring players back to the game, they need to strike a balance between being rare and hard enough to be special, but also accessible enough that players feel they stand a chance.More news: Australian woman who called 911 shot dead by Minneapolis police
As the live-action trailer above suggests, Legendary Pokemon are fought in a similar way to standard Raid Battles. Even if it took a year for most of the game's expected launch content to finally be released, it gives a second life to Niantic's game and yet another opportunity for Nintendo to expand their prowess in the mobile arena once again. At that point, they need to work together to defeat the Legendary Pokemon using the game's new cooperative raids feature. Previously, players could only gorge their prized fighter on food if they were in close proximity to the Gym itself, but that limitation no longer remains.
The first official Pokemon Go event, which has been dubbed Pokémon Go Fest, is taking place this upcoming weekend in Chicago.
