The original Disney classic was the highest grossing film of the year in 1992, and won Academy Awards for best score and best song for A Whole New World.
Disney have yet to announce who'll play Jafar.
Relative newcomer Mena Massoud and Power Rangers star Naomi Scott have booked a flight on a magic carpet ride. The studio was said to be looking for an actor of Middle-Eastern or Indian descent in his 20s who can sing and dance, which apparently proved "difficult". Thankfully for Naomi Scott, her portrayal of the sassy and smart Pink Ranger in the recent Power Rangers remake has resulted in mostly positive response to her taking on the strong and stubborn Princess Jasmine. The film starred the voice talents of Scott Weinger as Aladdin, Linda Larkin as Jasmine and Robin Williams as Genie. The company also confirmed actor Will Smith will play the role of the Genie.More news: Samsung Galaxy On Max launched in India, priced at Rs. 16900
Will Smith has already been cast as the Genie.
Dan Lin will produce the project under his Lin Pictures banner and Jonathan Eirich will executive produce.
Shooting on the film will begin relatively soon (August) in London, so more casting announcements are bound to be made within the next few weeks.
