Jeff Flake said he isn't sweating the president's visit to Phoenix on Tuesday. "Look, he wants to remain a senator, doesn't he?"

Kelli Ward, who is looking to unseat incumbent Sen.

In discussing Trump's border wall after the hearing, Flake pointed out that he supported an ultimately unsuccessful 2013 measure that would have provided money for hundreds of miles of fencing and increased the number of agents serving in the U.S. Border Patrol. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., sees Trump's criticism of Flake as "an enormous mistake".

In an interview on Fox News Thursday morning, Flake was asked why Trump is not a fan of him.

"The only people giving a platform to these hate groups is the media itself and the fake news", he said.

Apart from the cultural and political rhetoric that will reverberate for days after the wild rally, Trump also appeared to make several policy interventions that will alarm United States partners and could send economic shockwaves around the world.

Flake has vocally opposed Trump throughout his campaign and presidency.

But then, he attempted to rewrite the record, repeating a modified version of his original post-Charlottesville statement that omitted the words that caused such widespread outrage; Trump originally said "many sides" were to blame. He saw the president "trying to preserve his image as an outsider by criticizing specific lawmakers for inaction by Congress" - in an effort that is counterproductive.

"I think it's a mistake to personalize things in politics". They need to focus on winning the 2018 midterm election, Wilson said. "There are a lot of things that we talk about, but what we don't talk about is feelings", said McConnell Communications Director David Popp. "You don't gratuitously inflict injury, and if you've got grievances, you air them in private".

"I won't do it tonight because I don't want to cause any controversy", Trump said. Otherwise, he said, "I could care less".

In response to Trump's tweets, Flake's campaign said they were not anxious about the possible primary challengers Trump could be negotiating withbehind the scenes. "White House and leadership staff are coordinating regarding the details of those meetings".
