With the market share of the original Xbox One largely being supplanted by the newer Xbox One S, Microsoft could put its resources somewhere else, most likely in developing its contender for the next generation of consoles.

The Xbox One X version was on show at gamescom 2017, and early impressions reveal a noticeable visual upgrade over the PS4 Pro version.

It was during this month that store shelves were finally running out of the launch edition of the original Xbox One. However it's not until now that the last Xbox One's that have been shipped to retailers have begun to sell out.

"The speed at which we sold through our initial pre-order supply surpassed expectations, and what we experienced with pre-orders for the original Xbox One console". The PlayStation 4 quickly zoomed ahead of Xbox One.

The original Xbox One system launched back in 2013 and immediately became a big hit for Microsoft, despite its original $499 price tag and having the Kinect automatically included, something non-motion gamers weren't too thrilled about.

Microsoft has confirmed that production of the launch Xbox One model has ceased, making Xbox One S the leading hardware going forward.

In a recent interview Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg says he wants a more diverse game lineup in the future for all of the Xbox One consoles. Whether Microsoft decides to keep the Xbox One in United Kingdom or not is still not revealed.

On November 7, the Xbox One X launches worldwide and it promises to be the most powerful console ever released.
