It's not shocking that T-Mobile would do this. The carrier did state that "less than 1% of people" on the plan used over 5GB a month when traveling.
T-Mobile is one of those carriers that like "breaking away" from its competition by coming out with a pretty good sale or coming up with a major perk that other carriers don't dare to do.
Additionally, those with topped plans can never again utilize their Data Stash while in Canada or Mexico. It's not surprising that T-Mobile would do this. Once the cap is reached, you will be switched to Simple Global speeds only. The service was meant for T-Mobile users with the Simple Choice Plan which was back then a plan that came with unlimited talk and message service but the data was pretty expensive. One subscriber can attach unlimited LTE by including One Plus International, however, that is another $25 every month over the base plan. One of those options was the Mobile Without Borders plan that provided unlimited LTE data when customers traveled to Canada or Mexico. To stop the users from using "beyond the intent of the product" a capping has been applied to the usage of the monthly 4G LTE data.
Starting on November 12th, the Mobile Without Borders plan will introduce a 5GB LTE data cap on unlimited customers when they're visiting Canada and Mexico.More news: Air pollution high at U17 World Cup in India
T-Mobile not only has one of the best prices of all carriers, it has some great benefits to plans as well.
T-Mobile customers can track their LTE usage in Canada and Mexico by dialing the short code #WEB# on their phone.
The Mobile Without Borders service first appeared as part of T-Mobile's Simple Choice plan in 2015, and it came as an extension to the company's global roaming incentives. Either way, T-Mobile says that less than 1 percent of users who travel to either country use over 5GB in a month.
