After more than a week of carefully crafted messages about his trip to Asia, U.S. President Donald Trump has again launched a tweet storm aimed at his critics at home and overseas.
Asked if he could see himself being friends with Kim, Trump said: "That might be a odd thing to happen but it's a possibility". Trump said he also spoke while in Vietnam earlier this weekend with Russian President Vladimir Putin about the North Korea issue.
This isn't the first time Trump and Kim have traded barbs.
The US think-tank said: "Although Pyongyang is outspent by its neighbours in dollar-to-dollar comparisons and defence experts say it operates with raging equipment and technology, the regime's forward-deployed military position and missiles aimed at Seoul ensure that Pyongyang's conventional capabilities remain a constant threat to its southern neighbour".
In the White House briefing room last week, Trump's national security adviser H.R. McMaster told reporters the administration would wait "a few months" before reassessing their strategy.
Three days after Tillerson said he was "pleased to see that the regime in Pyongyang has certainly demonstrated some level of restraint that we've not seen in the past", North Korea fired three short-range ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan.
