Craig Burley explains why Virgil van Dijk will have a lot to prove with the microscope squarely on the new Liverpool defender.

Following Liverpool's long-running pursuit of the 26-year-old Netherlands worldwide, Southampton announced on Wednesday that it accepted the record fee ahead of the January transfer window opening.

Van Dijk will become the world's most expensive defender when he finalises his move to Liverpool on January 1st, with Klopp insisting he is not anxious about the fee his club paid for their new No.4.

But Liverpool had tried to land Van Dijk before the transfer deadline and Klopp is relieved to have finally got the centre-back, who will officially arrive on January 1 and could make his debut in the FA Cup third round tie against Merseyside rivals Everton.

Puyol is widely regarded as one of the finest defenders of the modern era following a career-spanning stint with Barca that yielded a host of honours, including six LaLiga crowns and three Champions League titles. It is fantastic for Liverpool.

"But maybe for us it can mean a couple of good players". At the beginning of the season it was hard for him because he wanted to join another club but now he will find his level. I am obviously not happy when we don't play well.

"I don't know if it is the right price but for me he is a fantastic player, a fantastic defender". "I am surprised about the development in the last two years. He is a strong character and personality".

Puel's Leicester, eighth in the league table with 27 points from 20 matches, will be looking to end their four-game winless run in all competitions at Anfield this weekend. They are a complete team. "We have to look after our play and try to play our game against them", Puel added.

"We had good opportunities and good results recently against big teams like against Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham".
