The driver line-up was confirmed by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO Sergio Marchionne during a launch event of the new Alfa Romeo Sauber partnership - announced earlier this week - in Milan.

The vehicle is predominantly white with red accents, and large Alfa Romeo logos after the Swiss team confirmed a deal with the manufacturer.

ARESE, Italy, Dec 2 (Reuters) - Formula Two champion Charles Leclerc will move up to Formula One with Alfa Romeo-backed Sauber next season while Marcus Ericcson stays in the lineup despite the Swede failing to score a point in 2017.

Giovinazzi will be the reserve driver instead, taking part in Friday practice sessions.

The promotion of 20-year-old Ferrari protege Leclerc, who is from Monaco, leaves German driver Pascal Wehrlein without a seat, with Williams the only remaining team with a vacancy. That was promptly followed by a deal with Ferrari for 2018.

While the 2018 Formula 1 driver market has been nowhere near as volatile as expected given the extensions for Kimi Raikkonen, Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel, some questions were left unanswered following the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi last Sunday. The title sponsorship deal means the team will be called Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 and the multi-year partnership comes with technical and commercial benefits.

"Formula One is the natural reference point for a marque like this", he said.
