Why is CIA Chief Mike Pompeo concerned about the Chinese influence on the West? We see it in our hospitals and medicals systems.

Mr. Pompeo then noted "think about the scale of the two economies, the Chinese have a much bigger footprint upon which to execute that mission than the Russians do".

Earlier this year, a former CIA officer was arrested on charges of retaining classified information in a case thought to be connected to the dismantling of the agency's spy operations in China.

The president says Democratic lawmakers are pressing the point of Russian influence on the 2016 elections to discredit his presidency. "It's also true in other parts of the world".

Citing examples of efforts at stealing USA information, Mike Pompeo said the scale of the two economies must be kept in mind in all considerations.

Pompeo further informed that that the Chinese "have a much bigger footprint" than the Russians do, as an example he quoted the efforts to steal U.S. commercial information and infiltration of schools and hospitals.

"We're going to work on those complicated problem sets and push back against the Iranians everyplace we can", he told the BBC.

"I am confident that America will be able to have a free and fair election".

"The Russians have been at this a long time, and I fully expect they'll continue to be at it", on the topic of Moscow's state-sponsored information campaigns.

The director of the United States' Central Intelligence Agency told BBC on Monday that China's efforts to "exert covert influence over the West" are just as problematic as Russia's.

Pompeo also expressed concern that North Korea would have the capability to strike the USA with nuclear-tipped ballistic missiles "in a handful of months".

Asked if US President Donald Trump's use of the Twitter social media service posed any national security issues, he said: "Hasn't caused us any trouble".
