Kenya has in the a year ago been in the process of acquiring the requisite approvals from the US Transport Security Administration for the direct flights and the national carrier admits it will be a logistic intensive exercise.

The national carrier will be traveling direct from Nairobi to NY city.

Kenya Airways says its direct flights plan to the United States will see more than 150 new jobs created in additional to other economic benefits.

The return flight will depart at 12:25 p.m. and arrive back in Kenya at 10:55 a.m. the day after.

Kenya Airways will operate two Boeing 787 Dreamliners on the route with daily flights.

"The move will cut the flight time between the two cities by more than seven hours", he said, noting it will take 15 hours eastbound and 14 hours westbound. "It fits within our strategy to attract corporate and high-end traffic from the world to Kenya and Africa". From New-York it will depart at 1225 and land at JKIA at 1055 the following day.

Kenya Airways, in a statement, touted the flight as the quickest way to get from East Africa to NY.

Kenya Airways operates a further 40 routes within Africa from Nairobi.

Kenya Airways' entry into the United States marks for development to the East African tourist portfolio best known for its rich wildlife resources, with expectations to attract more American tourists to the region.

Kenya Airways a member of the Sky Team Alliance, is a leading African airline flying to 51 destinations worldwide, 42 of which are in Africa and carries over three million passengers annually. This includes its flagship B787 Dreamliner aircrafts.

Officials from governments in East Africa and aviation companies operating in the region have reacted enthusiastically to the fact that Kenyas Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) has achieved Category One status.
