Sridevi was in Dubai for a wedding with her husband, Boney Kapoor and younger daughter Khushi. It happened roughly around 11.00-11.30.

Her death caused shockwaves on social media, with Bollywood fans in India and overseas expressing their disbelief.

Confirming the news of her death, Sridevi's brother-in-law and actor Sanjay Kapoor, told IANS: "Yes, it is true". "I don't know more details yet", Sanjay confirmed the news to indianexpress.com.

Known for her iconic roles in Hindi films such as Chandni, Nagina, Mr India, ChaalBaaz, and many more, Sridevi had acted in over 275 films including in regional cinema like Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. She made her Bollywood debut when she was 12 in "Julie", and landed her first adult role in the following year in K. Balachander's "Moondru Mudichu" opposite Kamal Hassan. In 1978, Sridevi appeared on the silver screen at the leading actress with film Solva Sawan.

Her nuanced performance as a middle-class woman, learning to speak English to feel accepted by her family, won accolades, and the film was also a commercial success. The 1997 Hindi film Judaai was her last major picture. She began working in films as a child.
