Usefully, there's a new PS Plus tab in the Library, which shows you which games you own from the PS Plus monthly free games. Apart from setting this to check on their kid's playtime, the family manager/guardians can apply playtime restrictions to make sure that the child is only playing for a set amount of time or within set playable hours. The "This PS4" tab will list all the applications that are installed on the PS4 system.
The purchase section isn't the only spot to get an overhaul - also included in PS4's System Software Update 5.50 are a healthy dose of "Quick Menu Enhancements".
Sony has unwrapped the full list of new content coming with PS4 update 5.50, highlights of which include Play Time Management and the ability to play music during PS Now gaming sessions. This is found under Settings Themes Select Theme Custom Select Image USB Storage Device.
Meanwhile, the update lets you import your own images via USB stick to use as custom wallpapers.
The system will send a notification to the child when playtime is coming to an end, giving them enough time to save progress. You can also zoom and crop your images so they look ideal on your dashboard.More news: John Stamos ties official knot with pregnant fiancée Caitlin McHugh
Other features in this patch include new Quick Menu improvements (shortcut buttons for volume and Pause/Play when listening to music, faster access to individual friends) and customization options for team pages in Tournaments. This feature makes it easier to see what games have been purchased but not installed.
Following on from this, there's a new function that lets you hide certain apps under the purchased tab in the Library. If your PS Plus membership is expired, a PS Plus icon with a lock shows up next to your game so you know which games you can play if you re-subscribe. Speaking of music, you'll be able to listen to tunes in the background while streaming games on PS Now.
Users will be able to access friends from their custom list via a pulldown menu under the Friends tab and see their online status. On the Media Player or USB Music Player, the triangle button works as a shortcut for play or pause and the square button can be used to control the volume.
Users will be able to permanently remove old notifications from their PS4 - for better organisation and management.
Finally, PS4 update 5.50 throws in Supersampling, which as previously reported allows users to enjoy select games with improved visuals even when played on a TV packing a resolution of 1080p or below. As reported back in January, those who have a PS4 Pro but not a 4K TV can still take advantage of games that render to higher resolution.
