More likely is some sort of smart speaker device with Spotify built into it. As more companies enter the market for it, its becoming a more-and-more competitive sphere.
"Spotify is on its way to creating its first physical products and setting up an operational organization for manufacturing, supply chain, sales & marketing", reads a job description for an Operations Manager: Hardware Product on Spotify's recruitment page. With Google's line of Home products and Apple's new HomePod, the ease of getting customers to sign up for the platform offered by their hardware manufacturer could push Google and Apple to the top. However, given the number of players already in the smart speaker market, then Spotify needs to come up with something special to be able to convince people to buy their hardware.
It's being speculated that the hardware that the company is referring to is its very own smart speaker.
According to a recent report from The Guardian, Spotify is now on the lookout for an Operations Manager: Hardware Product, a Senior Product Manager: Hardware Production, and a Project Manager: Hardware Production and Engineering.More news: Slovenia stuns USA in Olympic men's hockey opener
Other hints at Spotify hardware that have appeared in the past include a potential smartwatch device, so it's possible we're looking at a wrist-mounted Spotify device somehow. Information included in a job listing from 2017 said it wanted to create a "category-defining product akin to Pebble Watch, Amazon Echo, and Snap Spectacles".
However, if Spotify plans to incorporate voice control on the notional speaker, how, theoretically, would it do that?
Whatever Spotify ends up making, do you think it's going to be a hit? If yes, is it working on its own digital assistant? As always, if you have any thoughts, feel free to sound them off in the comments section below!
