Reports said the avalanche struck an army post of 21 Rajput around 4:30 pm at Sona Pandi Gali in Machil sector in which four soldiers went missing.
Despite avalanche warning and steep and hard terrain, troops remained on guard on the LoC to foil any infiltration bid from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK), where large number of trained militants are waiting to cross over to this side, defence sources told UNI.

"We are still confirming if more soldiers are trapped under the snow".
The deceased soldiers were identified as Havaldar Kamlesh Kumar, Naik Balbeer and Sepoy Rajinder.
However, one died on the spot and two others succumbed while being shifted to 92 base hospital Badamibagh, Srinagar. Earlier in the first week of January, eleven people, including a Border Roads Organisation officer and a year-old baby girl died when snow avalanches hit at two places in Tangdhar area of Kupwara.
