Talking to reporters after her meeting with the NCP chief, the West Bengal Chief Minister said, "when political leaders meet, they do discuss politics".

The Trinamool leader is also likely to visit Parliament House and meet "her old colleagues, party MPs and leaders of other political parties", a senior Trinamool leader had said on Monday.

On whether she would be meeting UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi during her visit to New Delhi, the chief minister said, "She is hospitalised".

"The Congress is undoubtedly the largest opposition party with a direct fight with the BJP in many states and big footprint across the country", said a TMC leader privy to the meeting. However, given the fact that Mamata has been projecting herself as a leader of a potential non-BJP, non-Congress front a meeting with Rahul Gandhi is unlikely.

"Yes, Sonia ji is unwell right now and recovering, will meet her once she is fine.Tomorrow will meet Shatrughan Sinha ji, Yashwant Sinha ji, and Arun Shourie ji". While KCR called for a non-Congress, non-BJP alliance, sources told ThePrint that Mamata said she wanted the Congress in the opposition alliance.

Stating that rallying with arms is not a part of Bengal's culture, she said those who are resorting to such hooliganism are actually trying to politicising and defaming the religion.

"I sent Dinesh da (Trivedi) to the Congress office but she had left by then".

Reports say Mamata also met DMK leader K Kanimozhi and K Kavitha, daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

She asserted that all opposition parties should work together to oust the BJP.

All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Banerjee also met Shiv Sena parliamentarian Sanjay Raut, later on Tuesday.

"People are against the BJP".

"Will certainly go if they (Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav) call us to Lucknow", she said. She is expected to meet Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday. "We should help the parties where they are strong", she said. If in Uttar Pradesh, the Mayawati-Akhilesh Yadav combine is strong, they should work together.

The TDP has recently ended its four-year alliance with the BJP and announced its exit from NDA over its demand for special status for Andhra Pradesh.

Asked if other leaders agreed with her, she suggested that everyone agreed that this is how the opposition should go about prepping for the 2019 elections to minimise the division of anti-BJP votes.
