The 2018 NFL Draft will be held April 26-28 in Arlington, Tex. With measurements, drills being timed and everything done under close scrutiny, the National Football League combine can mean quite a bit for some prospects.
When people ask me why I watch the draft or follow the combine I have no answer.
The Combine enlightened fans, scouts, and GMs to the athletic potential of many players, and it will be incredibly important in the coming weeks for the teams to sift through all the information they just received about each player. Barkley was not even considered to be the No. 1 overall pick, until he impressed everyone at the NFL Scouting Combine over the weekend in Indianapolis. Quandre Diggs can play nickel or strong safety now due to his physicality, but he ran just a 4.56-second 40 in 2013. Among the quarterbacks, he posted the quickest 20-yard shuttle (4.07 seconds), was fourth in the 3-cone drill (6.95) and the broad jump (9 feet, 5 inches), and tied for fourth in the vertical jump (31 inches). Considering he didn't face a high level of opposing quarterbacks as a senior, he needed to do more at the Combine. He really helped his draft stock.More news: Shubhankar Sharma makes waves in WGC-Mexico Championship
Josh Allen was the top performer among all quarterbacks in the Combine.
Lauletta showed off his athleticism and threw well during the workout portion of the Combine. His 40-inch vertical and 11-foot broad jump are off the charts for a man 215 pounds.
The day also included NFL Network's Rich Eisen running the 40-yard dash (in a suit and tie) and raising funds for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
There was also a chance to see Rich Eisen complete his annual 40-yard dash. Brown is able to compensate for his lack of athleticism on the field with his wide base and wingspan, but the low numbers he posted in Indianapolis will be an anchor on his draft grade, most likely out of the top-two rounds. His stock is on the rise after an impressive Combine where he measured in at 6-feet tall and clocked a time of 4.42 seconds in the 40-yard dash.
