Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder said he has been in contact with local police to "determine what has occurred at Central Michigan University".

The school posted an alert Friday morning on social media about shots being fired at Campbell Hall.

Campus police spoke with James Davis Jr. on Thursday night, Lt. Larry Klaus with CMU Police said during a news conference.

James Eric Davis, Jr.is listed as a sophomore in CMU's student directory. The incident came about two weeks after 17 students and educators were killed by a 19-year-old gunman with an assault-style rifle at a Florida high school.

This is the last day of classes before spring break. "The hurting will go on for a while", said university President George Ross.

CMU police believe Davis fled on foot; they are unsure of his current attire after finding articles of clothing near railroad tracks in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.
