The final set came from fellow new inductees the Moody Blues, who were inducted by the returning Ann Wilson.

Their ten-ish minutes of stage time were then followed by ... nothing. Their concept album "Days of Future Passed" is considered a classic and includes the hit "Nights In White Satin".

Soul legend Nina Simone and Sister Rosetta Tharpe, the gospel inspiration for early rockers, both of whom were posthumously inducted, and British rockers Dire Straits rounded out the 2018 Hall of Fame class.

Bon Jovi reunited with former members onstage last night to celebrate their admission into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, as the late icon Nina Simone and other nominees made up this year's induction class. But while he was excited about the Rock Hall honors, Ocasek downplayed the chance for a future Cars album without Benjamin Orr.

An inspiration to musicians from Elvis Presley to Johnny Cash, Tharpe was called "the godmother of rock and roll" Saturday night by Alabama Shakes lead singer Brittany Howard, who inducted one her biggest influences. Although it rained during the ceremony, not even a single fan left the arena.

Simone was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on Saturday night by R&B superstar Mary J. Blige, who described her as "bold, strong, feisty and fearless and so vulnerable and transparent at the same time".

Asked about the possibility of a further reunion, Jon said: 'I think Richie's got a solo career, you know?

The Killers earned a loud applause from the audience when they started performing "American Girl", then transitioned to "Free Fallin'".

The frontman said though he and the other current members haven't spoken to Sambora since he left the group, he invites the performer, along with Such, to be part of the Rock Hall festivities.

"Pay some rock "n" roll respect.to the eternal Tom Petty", frontman Brandon Flowers said, as photos of Petty were displayed in the background.

A live stream of the ceremony's red carpet will be viewable at the Rock Hall's Facebook page, YouTube channel and official website starting at 5:30 p.m. ET. Dire Straits, The Moody Blues and Sister Rosetta Tharpe also are being enshrined.

In its citation, the Hall of Fame credited the London band with its revival of Americana, saying, "Dire Straits dragged rock kicking and screaming back to its gritty, country roots using beefy guitar licks and bluesy vocals".

As Rolling Stone notes, following a "hilarious" speech from presenter Howard Stern, the members of the group spoke about their history in the band, and what their induction means to them.
