"The details matter because the facts matter, and should matter even to the President", Comey explained, adding that he had chosen to classify some memos but not all of them.
"That's non-negotiable", Comey said at the CNN event at his alma mater, the College of William & Mary in Virginia. "I never saw President Trump laugh even in an nearly hour-and-a-half hour long private dinner", he said.
When Comey was asked what his nickname was for Trump, he said he doesn't have one.
I thought I was a good person.
"He said he had spoken to people who had been on the Miss Universe trip with him and they had reminded him that he didn't stay overnight in Russian Federation for that", Comey wrote in one memo. Comey, fired by Trump a year ago, has likened the president to a crime boss who values personal loyalty over service to the country.More news: Students To Walk Out In Memory Of Columbine Shooting
Over the weekend, Trump retweeted a post from the Daily Mail's USA political editor, David Martosko, who wrote that he is "astonished at the lack of Republican messaging today" regarding how the memos "confirm Trump asked Comey to investigate and lay to rest the Russian hookers stuff, which is something you don't do if you're guilty".
And for Trump's supporters, the assessments are sure to be viewed as inappropriate and inaccurate and proof that the fired former Federal Bureau of Investigation director is - as the White House says - simply whipping up controversy for profit. "Based on values, I think the American people were faced with a choice between the least popular, least trusted candidates in modern history", he said, but "between the two, looking in hindsight, Hillary Clinton is more enmeshed in, trained in, respectful of the norms and traditions I'm so worry are being eroded today".
But Comey argued that the "concern is not unconventional leadership", but maintains that the way the President threatens United States values.
"Where is that commitment to character and values?" said Comey, who is no longer a Republican.
This isn't Comey's first interview with CNN. "He said he thought maybe he should ask me to investigate the whole thing to prove it was a lie". Some things I just laughed at.
