In a statement on Twitter, the American Federation of Teachers announced their goal was to transform this moment of activism into a long-term movement for fully funded public schools for our kids and respect for ourselves and our profession.

Rep. John Pfeiffer, a House majority floor leader, also said lawmakers are unlikely to consider any other major revenue bills this session.

The push from teachers for a walkout seemed to grow following the March 21 teacher sickout that closed nine West Valley schools, and again after Oklahoma teachers walked out on April 2.

This week, the Oklahoma Education Association is asking Governor Mary Fallin to veto the repeal of a hotel/motel tax that was part of the $447 million tax increase signed into law last week.

"My teachers, they try, they help us do things, even though we don't have the supplies we need", said Booker T student Maleah Harvin.

State officials say Hoffman and her husband drove to the Clinton Police Department on Saturday, where she confessed to having a sexual relationship with one of her 15-year-old students. "They have never been in a public school before". The Oklahoma teacher also said the strike should be addressing itself to the issue of teachers' medical and retirement costs. "So I think it's well worth the investment for the district to do so and I'd like the board's support".

"Out here to spread the word that schools need funding", stated Guss. "Fighting the fight to get more funding", said Kristy Cooper, a Mid-Del teacher.

The teachers' rebellion was initiated and has been driven by rank-and-file teachers, both unionized and nonunion, who have used social media to organize after years of betrayals by the unions.

"My former students who are now teachers, one is leading a walk today, another is on the capitol grounds", said Carbbe. "How do you negotiate with Facebook?" he asked.

Arizona teachers shout in protest their low pay and school funding in front of a local radio station waiting for Republican Gov. Doug Ducey to show up for a live broadcast Tuesday, April 10, 2018, in Phoenix.

Emily is a senior at Broken Arrow High School. Any illusion that the unions-which are thoroughly integrated into the structure of the government and corporate management, and fully support austerity-can be reformed and forced to fight, would doom this struggle to failure.
