If you have any questions regarding this year's drive, you may call the Post Office or either of the food pantries.
The 26th annual National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is set for Saturday, May 12. Families already struggling, find it even more hard to meet the extra need for food. "This food drive is important because it stocks the shelves of our pantries across central and western Oklahoma". "We wouldn't be able to help our neighbors living with hunger without your support".
Past year just over 4,000 pounds of food was collected by the local Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.
That old saying comes to mind, "Need doesn't have a season" and it is true, people struggle during every season of the year, not just the holiday season.More news: Amid tough time, Spurs play spoilers in Warriors' sweep bid
According to statistics found on the National Association of Letter Carriers website in 2015, postal carriers collected more than 70 million pounds of food nationally. Perhaps most alarming is the fact that almost 16 million children in America are struggling with hunger.
On May 12, as they deliver mail, the nation's 175,000 letter carriers will collect the donations that residents have left near their mail boxes.
Residents in the Chesters, Mendhams, Harding and Washington Township are urged to leave non-perishable foods in a bag next to their mailboxes for collection by letter carriers on Saturday, May 12.
Carriers will bring the food to local food banks, pantries or shelters.
