Noida and Gurugram authorities have ordered closure of all schools, while the Delhi government has closed only the evening schools.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation said that they would be cautious in running the trains.
IMD has said, due to the impact of western disturbance, dust storm or thunderstorm accompanied with squalls and hail are likely to occur over Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Sikkim and West Bengal during the period.
The warning has also been issued for southern part of the country for today and tomorrow. All the states have been alerted and schools across Haryana, Himachal Pradesh remained closed with the prior warnings.
The advisory has asked commuters to avoid travelling during the storm.
The Police has put the field formulation on alert to remove obstacles like fallen trees and soft structure for the smooth flow of traffic in the city. A high-velocity dust storm hit parts of north India on Monday night with a wind speed of up to 70 kilometres per hour, the Met office said. In view of the warning, Delhi government has put search and rescue teams on standby. "No train will enter platforms with a speed of more than 15 kmph", a metro official told PTI.

Severe dust-storm was reported from Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu, Sikar.
A total of 124 people have lost their lives so far in the thuderstorms since last month.
Ranawat confirmed that 4,200 poles, 395 transformers and 375 feeders have been damaged in Bharatpur.
Apart from the northern states and west Madhya Pradesh, dust-storms with gusty winds are also likely to hit isolated places in north-eastern states, including Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and also Bihar.
Heavy rains were very likely at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, south interior Karnataka and Kerala.
Haryana had announced on Sunday that schools would remain shut until Tuesday.
